Dr. McMillen and his wife have 5 children. They have grown up since birth with excellent spinal care....their dad. People will ask us, Why do we treat children. The answer is actually quite simple. As adults, we know that lifting a lot, bending, twisting and turning can all cause back pain. Even if we do not get pain from those things, we understand that those activites are hard on our spines. So back to the children....Have you ever watched a 2 year run, play fallor do many of the activities they do throughout the day. How about fall off the swing? Or go down a water slide and face plant? What do you think would happen if you, a big strong adult did that? OUCH. You get the picture. So children are prone to subluxations (slight misalignments of the vertebrae) from simply everyday playing. As children play, IE: Climbing, jumping, running and falling, these actions affect their spine, joints, muscles and inner workings of their nervous system. Small bumps create small spinal misalignments or subluxations that over time create interference within the nervous system. If not treated, the body considers this normal and the muscles, joint and ligaments grow incorrectly, a scoliosis can develop and a lifetime of aches and pains begins. Having children chcked for these small misalignments can prevent a lot of the aches and pains that you as an addult suffer from. Just like your teeth need chcked at a young age, children need their spines chcekd for early detection of problems. conform to the new way of walking, bending and other movements.
As infants develop, they learn to hold their head up, roll over, sit, crawl and walk. None of us go from crawling to walking on the first try. They FALL, again and again and again on the litte behinds. What do you think would happen if YOU fell on your behind multiple times a day? For some reason we think don't get hurt. We think they cry because that's what kids do when they fall. But in reality, they are traumatizing their spines. It is normal for babies to fall when they are learning to walk, but each of these falls creates a new subluxation. By the time the baby is a toddler; these subluxations have become their normal. Subluxations can affect the nervous system and lead to a less effective immune systems increasing the occurrence of chronic colds, ear problems, constipation, bedwetting and poor sleep.
Dr. McMillen has treated thousands of children over the past 33 years. He has treated his own children since birth so he knows how to treat children effectively and gently. He uses a very gentle instrument technique. Children ofetn giggle when getting adjsuted and their parents feel very comfortable with care. In fact, most parents bring all of their children in for check up, just like going to their dentist for good oral
